"We're a family-run solar specialist that has been installing solar panels and battery storage systems throughout the South of England since 2010. We pride ourselves on our 100% in-house technical expertise and installation work, as well as our attention to detail, industry-leading design work, customer care, and the quality of our post-install support.
Installing solar PV & battery storage is such a large investment that it's paramount to work out the best specification and system design to maximise your return on that investment and make sure that the system ticks all the boxes. As such, we provide a free, bespoke design service for all of our clients, and are prepared to go back to the drawing board as many times as it takes to finely tune the design and achieve the best system and investment return for every household and building.
If you'd like to understand what you get when you request a quote from Spirit Energy, take a look at our case study series, Sam's Solar Journey. I'd recommend video 4."
-Tok Charles, Spirit Energy
By Ian Charles, Managing Director & Co-Founder
(1 / 4) Spirit was founded by Erica Charles, a mathematician who returned to Oxford University in her 30’s to complete a Masters on the maximization of photon capture by solar panels. What she was doing going back to University when she was pregnant with our third child, I have no idea. Anyway, the maths taught her that a well-designed and well-installed solar system will generate a considerably superior return on investment compared to one where insufficient attention has been applied to the design details. That ethos continues today with Spirit’s commitment to recruiting the finest graduates and installers and providing them with the best in-house technical training that the industry can offer… regardless of the cost…
-Ian Charles, Managing Director
(2 / 4) After a famous clash with Prime Minister David Cameron, Erica became a thought leader and activist for the solar industry in the UK. She hated the publicity, it’s not her style at all (she once refused to be the subject of The Sunday Times’ “How I made it” column…. even thought it would have been great publicity for the business…), but it did mean that Spirit has became a key partner to many of the major product suppliers in the industry. Which doesn’t mean we’re tied to any particular product brand; we work in a fast evolving industry and we make it our mission to stay ahead of technical developments so that we can make the best choices about which products to recommend to our customers… even though those products are rarely the ones we could make most money from…
(3 / 4) When I asked Justin Parsons, Head of Installations at Spirit for 15 years, why he has to visit personally the vast majority of customers before installation, he told me that it’s because, at Spirit, we put the customers first and the bottom line would just have to look after itself.
And apparently the reason we don’t subcontract any of our on-site electrical and roof work is also because we put the customers first and the bottom line will just have to look after itself…
My aim at Spirit is to make sure we get the right renewable energy solution for your home or business. It is a great feeling to take yourself off grid and generate your own power without needing to worry about power cuts or an increasing energy price over the next 25 years.
I have an in-roof PV installation at my home with a zappi and eddi. Having the technology you sell on your own roof fitted by the company you work for really helps to understand how the system works and what sort of experience a customer expects.
Justin is the backbone of the company and part of the leadership team. He has overall responsibility for the installers, electrical design and sign off of all systems as well doing a technical and structural survey for every project to ensure we can manage each job perfectly. His devotion and meticulous attention to detail has helped build Spirit into the reputable and trustworthy brand we are today.
You will most likely meet Justin on your technical & structural survey where he will plan your entire installation and run you through every minute detail.
"At Spirit, we don’t believe in pushy salesmen. We employ well-trained and knowledgeable technicians who know our products, are up to date with the regulations and can carry out technical calculations. This lets us provide you with a detailed quote and plenty of guidance on what the best system for you is."
-Mark Golding, Head of Sales
"I know that the technical & structural survey is a step that other installers don't feel is necessary, but many of Spirit's customers appreciate the chance to talk to the actual installers before the installation date."
-Justin Parsons, Head of Installations
We've installed thousands of systems since 2010, helping to make buildings across the South of England more energy efficient, as well as helping people save money and reduce reliance on the grid.
