The Smart Export Guarantee was introduced on the 1st January 2020 to replace the outgoing Feed-in-Tariff scheme. The smart export guarantee works differently to the previous scheme in that it allows companies mandated to be part of the scheme, that is, those that have over 150,000 customers, to pay for electricity exported back to the grid.
