EV Chargers: Electric Car Charging Points for Business

The EV revolution has begun! The Workplace Charging Scheme provides up to £6,000 per business towards the cost of EV chargepoints (£300 per socket).

Key facts: EV charging points for business

  • £300 Workplace Charging Grant per socket to assist with the cost of installing workplace chargers (i.e. not for public use). Up to 20 chargepoints per business (max £6000).
  • All you need to know about chargers here.
  • Several technologies available from us (EVBox, EO, Rolec, and 'car-specific' - Tesla, Porsche, Mercedes etc).
  • Functionality is key: monitoring and metering, auto-payment settlement, access restriction (key, RFID card), employee benefit analysis etc.  For more information click here.
  • Scalability of the solution is key - electric car use is expected to grow exponentially over the next few years.
  • Cost analysis should take into account of the charger cost, installation cost and, if necessary, on-going subscription fees for charger management software.
  • 16A or 32A Mode 3 charge points available – we recommend single phase 32A / 7kW or three phase 16A (11kW) / 32A (22kW).
  • Active load management may be necessary to prevent overloading of your grid connection.
  • We can specify and install battery storage if you need to boost your connection size and trickle charge the battery to fast charge the car.

By 2020, 5-10% of cars are expected to be electric

A business with 1000 employees now has an average of 8 employees with an electric car. By 2020 the same business can expect between 40 and 100 employees to be driving an electric car.

Exciting times, with many hurdles to overcome

The electrification of the transport system presents a massive challenge and a massive opportunity to planners, the government, the National Grid and to businesses.

The challenge is to provide enough easily accessible and universally compatible charging points on the back of an already over-stretched national grid.

The opportunities are there for businesses to cut fleet costs, earn income from charging, improve employee retention, poach customers, reduce their carbon footprint and improve their green credentials.

What can Spirit do for you?

We are here to help you overcome the challenges and make the most of the opportunities.  As well as specifying and installing off-street EV chargers, we can also design and install battery storage systems to help you overcome the grid constraints faced by many businesses in trying to offer EV charging in their car parks.

We are systems integrators, able to work with different charger manufacturers and with different storage providers to offer you an integrated solution tailored to your needs, both now and in the future.

We are OLEV approved installers and can help you take advantage of the Workplace EV Charging Scheme, a scheme offering a non-repayable grant of up to £6,000 towards the cost of installing workplace EV charge points. The scheme offers £300 per socket installed up to a maximum of 20 sockets per business.
