Summary
The government's Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) offers a non-repayable Workplace Charging Scheme grant of up to £20,000 towards the cost of installing EV chargepoints.
Who is eligible?
- Businesses, charities, and local authorities that can declare a need for electric vehicle charging or an intent to encourage EV uptake among staff or company fleet
- Must be located in England, Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland
- The scheme covers 75% of installation and chargepoint costs, up to £500 per socket installed, across up to 40 sockets per business
- Designed for off-street parking with chargers for the use of employees or staff fleet
- Not designed for commercial car parks, public parking, or retail outlets and hotels with guest parking
- Chargepoints must be installed by an OZEV-approved installer such as Spirit (listed as Spirit Solar Ltd on the approved installer list)
The scheme has been extended for a final year and is confirmed to run until 31 March 2027. This is expected to be the last year of the current grant structure, so businesses considering installation should act before the deadline.
Claiming the Grant
- The scheme is voucher-based. You apply to the scheme administrator (the DVLA)
- If eligibility checks are successful, you will be issued with a unique voucher code via email, which can then be given to your OZEV-authorised WCS installer
- The voucher is valid for four months (120 days) from the date of issue
- Once the chargepoints have been installed, the authorised installer claims the grant from OZEV on your behalf by submitting a claim form via OZEV's portal
- Vouchers can only be redeemed by OZEV-authorised installers who have approval from an OZEV-approved chargepoint manufacturer. The installation must be completed and the voucher claimed within the four-month validity period, claims against expired vouchers will not be paid
